On The Lot: 7-31-2007- Road Night
Zach is concerned that since his movie was all glimmer and not enough substance, he might be the one going home. Sam and Andrew are also concerned they may be going home. Adriana meets the directors to tell them their fate. The bottom two directors are Andrew and Zach and it is Andrew who is eliminated.
The top vote getter from last week, Jason will get to direct Jerry O’Connell in his net week because he got the most votes.
Adriana introduces the judges Carrie Fisher and Gary Marshall but Gary is not there in his place is his sister Penny. The guest director judge is Gary Ross of Seabiscuit fame.
Adam Stein is first and his movie “Driving Under the Influence,” about a car whose radio makes people dance against their will. Adam missed some shots that would have built more tension and made this movie a little better. None of the judges were as picky as me and thought he did a wonderful job. I thought it sucked.
Sam Friedlander’s movie “Backseat Driving Test,” is a mother who suffers from backseat driving. The son hires a guy to try and cure her of this by having the mother sit in a car with him as he drives around a lot like a stunt driver. After the mother sits with the stunt driver she no longer cares how her son drives and even after he get’s into a bunch of near accidents the mother now wants to do it again. The film seemed juvenile, not in its content but in its film making, it just seemed very amateur.
Zach is doing a sequel to the film he made last week where the couple making-out were transported into the movies via the DVD player in the car. This may not be smart as last week’s film almost got him sent home. The title of this week’s sequel film is “Bonus Feature Two.” In this movie, the couple were caught in a pirate movie where their car was being pillaged and plundered, the guy starts fighting with the pirates as the girl uses the DVD player to go into another movie and she comes back moments later with a laser gun to foil the pirates with. The guy and girl then go back to real life where they make out. I think Zach made a big mistake making a sequel to a crappy film, I hope he doesn’t get eliminated over it. It’s funny, Penny doesn’t give any constructive criticism to any of the directors, she is On the Lot’s version of Paula Abdul, and she keeps blowing smoke up their butts.
Jason turn to show his film starring Jerry O’Connell titled “The Move,” about a guy who helps his buddy move. Jerry O’Conell is moving and starting to question his decision to move. His buddy is trying to convince him that moving is the right decision. The two unpack the truck and it turns out they were playing a prank on a buddy who was passed out. I am with Carrie, Gary and Penny, we didn’t quite get it. The movie was missing the set-up, it would have been better if we saw why they were doing the prank. Penny cut’s Gary off again and starts babbling, she really is reminding me of Paula. Is Penny on something?
The last film of the night is Will Bigham’s story of a guy who beats up his car during a traffic jam and his car fights back, titled “Road Rage 101.” It was the best movie of the night but that wasn’t saying much. I think all of the movies sucked big time tonight. The directors are fading down the stretch. Penny finally put’s together a coherent sentence and it was constructive criticism to boot it only took her all night.
Adriana says that voting will be open for at least two hours. What does that mean? They will be counting votes until hey get a decision they like? That seems like crap?
The judges weigh in on their favorites, bothe Carrie and Gary liked Adams film the best about the uncontrollable dancing, Penny’s favorite was Sam and his backseat driving mother.
I think Zach may be a goner, doing a sequel on a movie merica hated the first one was a bad move.
